Hello! So much has happened in the last couple of weeks. The biggest and saddest event has been Devon deploying. We spent the last month spending as much family time as possible, while still going over finances, power of attorneys, wills, and other big to dos that I am now responsible for-yikes! On D’s last night at home we (Devon and I) woke up at 1:00am. He had to be at work by 3:00am so I made breakfast. We had pancakes, eggs, bacon…you know, the good stuff, and we ate breakfast together. Afterwards, we packed up baby and headed off to the company to say our “see you laters”. Sad day.

I started a journal, and write in it daily so that Devon won’t miss a thing. I mainly write about Miss P, but sometimes I write about our boring errands. If he is lucky, something silly will happen, and he will hopefully laugh. Like the story below(not so funny while it was happening, but NOW it’s funny)…
Three days prior to leaving for Colorado, Penelope was sick(this is not the silly part). She had a fever. I called a nurse at the health clinic and she said that because Penelope didn’t show any other symptoms, I could nurse it at home. So that’s what I did. I felt horrible that she was sick, but my girlfriends convinced me that she would be fine. They were right. The evening before our flight she was fever free.
I have a fever :/
She was still fever free the morning of our flight. Whew! After we made it onto the plane things were looking good. She was just a little clingy, but that’s normal after being sick, right? Nothing that I couldn’t handle… a 10hour flight from Munich to Atlanta would be nice.
About 7hours into the flight, Nellie had her second bowel movement (she is going to hate me for writing about this when she’s older), but this time I felt it! I quickly put her to my hip so I could take her to the restroom and change her. While she was on my hip, I could feel the heat of it. I just knew that it was going to be messy. When I laid her onto the changing table, I saw that diarrhea had soaked through her clothes! Yuck! I looked at my shirt where P was sitting…yup, that was messy too. Great!
I tended to baby first. I undressed her, and tried to rinse out her outfit. The sink wasn’t the best, and the poop was clogging it. Ugh! Whatever, I would deal with that later. Baby’s diaper should be priority. Poop was everywhere. Her legs, her back, her belly! Oh, to be a mom! I cleaned her up, put a fresh diaper on, and then tried dealing with her poopy outfit again. After about 10 seconds of running water onto it, I decided that there would be no salvaging it. I threw it away! Next I scraped out the poop from the sink to unclog it. It took a while, but thankfully I made it work. Then I had to tend to my shirt. Knowing that the sink would clog if I tried rinsing it, I just took it off so I could shove it at the very bottom of my diaper bag, which was at my seat. Ugh! Oh, how I wished D was there to be a part of this adventure.
I walk out of the airplane bathroom wearing a white tank top, my black bra strap showing, holding a naked baby at my hip. Can we say white trash? I was mortified. I quickly got to our seat and changed P into her spare outfit. Unfortunately, I didn’t bring a jacket or sweater, so I was stuck looking not-so-classy until I made it through customs in Atlanta.
The day got worse, if you can believe it. While waiting at our gate in Atlanta, I noticed Penelope was developing some sort of rash on her face. What is going on? All I wanted to do was get to Colorado and then deal with whatever issues P was having. I convinced myself that the poor lighting in the airport was playing tricks on my eyes and Nellie was fine.
The next day, after we spent the night in our new apartment in Colorado, her rash was worse! It was on her trunk, her face, and her arms. Off to the doctor’s. Our new pediatrician explained that she had Rosiola, a harmless virus. It starts with a fever then the rash breaks out 24 hours later. That fit Penelope to a tee. Don’t worry, Penelope is better now!
So that’s just an example of one of the stories I wrote for Devon. Do you think he’ll enjoy it? Haha.
Being in Colorado has been so much fun. Everything at our apartment was already taken care of thanks to my bro-in-law and sister. P has a doctor. I have a doctor. Ft Carson is near by(as well as tons of other Air Force Bases). Penelope is in Gymboree classes. Shopping is amazing.
America, I love you.
